A few of us went to the second edition of ‘Bump Festival’, a festival in Kortrijk, where every type of digital creative can get some inspiration and meet new people. This festival is organized by Devine (Digital Design & Development), a three-year bachelor degree at Howest. The festival is a great way to keep their students motivated and stimulate their inspiration and creativity.
When we arrived we were handed a goodiebag with a custom made (for the festival) frisbee with a design from one of our heroes McBess. We sure know how to spend our Friday-Beer-o-clock-time now. Other goodies were some cool pixel glasses, a stress ball, some stickers and flyers and the reusable tote bag itself.
During the lunch break we also got FREE HOTDOGS!! Yes, that’s right, FREE hotdogs. Big thanks to The Street Food Company.
Together with hundreds of other creative peeps we were able to enjoy the super inspiring talks of names like McBess (his fascination with food is astonishing), Ash Thorp, Moon Ribas (who inspired us to become cyborgs and extend our senses), Joanie Lemercier (whom we also spotted at Kikk Festival last year), Josh Payton and many more.
The speakers at this festival really had all kinds of different backgrounds and skills. That’s one of the reasons we at Bagaar love to go to this kind of festivals, because everyone can get inspired and have a great time. Alex McLean blew everyone away (especially the devs) with his tips ‘n tricks about live-coding music. (I feel a BAGAAR BAND coming...). Josh Payton gave an inspirational speech everyone could use once in a while:
“The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel."
Including some great use of emojis in his slides. We would also totally wear a 'real cocktail’ dress made by Anouk Wipprecht during our monthly team meetings. Huge thanks to Bart Van de Wiele for sharing all the new things Adobe has to offer. We’re definitely going to check it all out! And of course the amazing Ash Thorp was the perfect ending to the talks of this festival.
The best thing about this festival is that it’s a cosy, small festival. All the speakers were able to join everyone at the afterparty to have a couple of free drinks, food and talk to the people that look up to them. The drinks at the afterparty were absolutely great but the live Algorave performance was the proverbial cherry on top!
Thank you guys for inspiring us with such a variety of speakers. We are definitely looking forward to the next edition with undoubtedly another great line-up!
